Alana Ginsburg

Alana Ginsburg is an alumna of the Xylem Lab, where she served as an undergraduate research assistant from 2021 to 2024, earning a B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is currently furthering her expertise as an M.S. student in the Department of Geography and Spatial Sciences at the University of Delaware.

During her tenure with the Lab and NASA Harvest, Ms. Ginsburg focused on leveraging machine learning for crucial applications, including crop yield forecasting and rangeland monitoring. Beyond technical research, she was highly involved in advancing global capacity building by supporting training workshops and actively advocating for continued investment and more African-led initiatives within the field. Her commitment to engagement led her to participate in a cropland monitoring workshop at CSE in Senegal and an ICPAC training on climate services and remote sensing for agriculture, where she collaborated directly with practitioners from across East Africa. Ms. Ginsburg brings substantial experience in geospatial data analysis using Python, demonstrates leadership in sustainability efforts, and is deeply passionate about the value of interdisciplinary education, having also minored in Policy and Atmospheric Science at UMD.

At the University of Delaware, Ms. Ginsburg is pursuing graduate research under the guidance of Dr. Pinki Mondal, focusing on the impacts of climate change and the development of community resilience. Her broader interests span agricultural monitoring and emergency management, all viewed through the lens of robust geospatial data analysis. Originally from New York, Ms. Ginsburg also brings the unique perspective gained from time spent in New Orleans, Louisiana, to her studies in environmental science and policy.
